The process, from start to finish, is fully automated and computer controlled and as it is the most modern plant of its kind in Europe, we can achieve exceptional levels of production efficiency. The stages of the process are as follows:
Production Process
Eirebloc composite blocks are manufactured from a specially selected blend of cleaned recycled wood and virgin wood residues bonded using a suitable Melamine Urea Formaldehyde resin system
Pre-shredded recycled wood chip and virgin wood chip are loaded into the plant.
All contaminants are removed — i.e. ferrous metal, non-ferrous metal, stones, grit and plastics.
Wood chip is hammer-milled to a suitable size.
Wood chip is dried to the required moisture level.
Material is blended with resins.
Material is extruded continuously from the presses.
Blocks are sawn to the required size, then automatically stacked and wrapped.
Density and height are measured in-line, and blocks outside the required specification are rejected.
All other tests are carried out in the laboratory on a daily basis.

Quality Standards
Quality through experience and innovation
Quality is of primary importance to us, and we are unique amongst producers in having an in-line quality control system to ensure that all blocks comply with the relevant standards (see note below). This system checks the height, length, width, weight and density of each individual block, thereby ensuring that only those blocks which meet the standard are packaged and delivered to our customers.
The in-line quality control system is further supplemented by a state-of-the-art in-house laboratory where composite blocks from every hour’s production are put through a series of rigorous tests.
The result is that every Eirebloc Pallet Block sold is:
- Is dimensionally accurate.
- Has a high nail extraction resistance.
- Is environmentally friendly.
- Is consistent in quality.
All Eirebloc Pallet Blocks are:
- EPAL certified since December 2008.
- CHEP approved since March 2011.
- In compliance with ISPM 15 international Phytosanitary Standards.
Note on quality checks:
- Height within 1 mm of specification
- Length within 2 mm of specification
- Width within 2 mm of specification
- Density in excess of 600 kg/m³
